SCO Defense Ministers to Convene in Astana
In recognition of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the capital city of Astana is set to host a crucial gathering of defense ministers from SCO member states on April 26, 2024.
Organized by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the meeting aims to enhance confidence-building measures in the military realm, bolster peace and stability within the region, and coordinate joint efforts to address emerging challenges and threats to regional security.
Anticipated attendees include defense ministers from SCO member states, the SCO Secretary General, the director of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure of the Organization, and the Minister of Defense of Belarus.
The SCO, comprising Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, is a significant regional organization spanning over 34 million square kilometers, representing 60% of Eurasia’s territory.
