Presidential Election in Kyrgyzstan Scheduled for 2027

The Constitutional Court of Kyrgyzstan has issued an official interpretation of constitutional provisions regarding the presidential term at the request of President Sadyr Japarov, according to Kazinform.

According to the court’s clarification, a presidential term that has begun must be completed within the originally established six-year period. The current six-year term is considered the first under the two-term limit rule.

Early elections are possible only as a legal consequence of the premature termination of presidential powers. Such grounds include voluntary resignation, lawful removal from office, inability to perform duties due to health reasons, or death. The court emphasized that any other scenario for early elections is not предусмотрed by law.

The next regular presidential election in Kyrgyzstan is scheduled for the fourth Sunday of January 2027 — January 24, 2027. The election must be called by the parliament, the Jogorku Kenesh, no later than four months before the voting date, that is, by September 24, 2026.

It is worth noting that in April 2025, members of the Jogorku Kenesh adopted in three readings amendments to the constitutional law “On the Election of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh,” clarifying the date of the next presidential election.
