Yakutia Fires: 19 extinguished on average per day

Firefighters in Yakutia have put out 19 forest fires in a day, the regional government said on Sunday. The fires, which were detected on an area of 3,605.5 hectares, were extinguished on July 8, Turanews.kz.

A total of 174 forest fires are still active in the republic, covering an area of 289,228.5 hectares. One landscape (natural) fire with a total area of 256 hectares is also active.

The fires are being extinguished in 10 districts of the republic. 922 people, 28 pieces of equipment and aviation are involved in the work.

A regime of emergency of a regional nature has been introduced in Yakutia due to the forest fires. The municipal emergency regime operates on the territory of the Aldan, Vilyui, Neryungrinsky, Oymyakonsky, Olekminsky and Ust-Maysky districts.

The fire hazard class in Yakutsk and its environs remains at 4 (high), while in Ust-Maisky and Tomponsky districts it is at 5 (extremely high).

The authorities have warned residents of the affected areas to be careful and to avoid going to forests. They have also asked drivers to be careful when driving on roads near forests.

The forest fires in Yakutia are the latest in a series of wildfires that have hit the region in recent years. The fires are caused by a combination of factors, including dry weather, high winds and human activity.
