Turkic states establish ‘Alphabet Commission’ to unify languages

The first meeting of the Commission on the creation of a single alphabet will be held in Kyrgyzstan

A “Common Alphabet Commission” has been established to accelerate the process of achieving language unity across the Turkic states and transition to a common alphabet. The commission will hold its first meeting in Kyrgyzstan, Anadolu Agency reports.

The decision to create a unified alphabet commission was presented to the Turkic States Association at the “Seminar on the Common Alphabet of the Turkic World” dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Language Day which held in Bursa, Turkey.

The seminar was chaired by the head of the Turkish Language Society (TDK), Gurer Gulsevin with the participation of the head of TDK’s Council of Elders.

Scholars from the Turkic states provided reports on the progress of the alphabet and language history in their countries, after which they noted the importance of accelerating the transition to a single alphabet.
