Trump Imposes 50 Percent Tariff on Certain Goods from Canada

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing an additional 50 percent tariff on a range of goods imported from Canada, BBC reported.

The decree states that Canada provides far more favorable conditions to certain other countries in trade compared to the US and applies unjustified restrictions. “Canada offers significantly more advantageous terms in trade with certain foreign nations compared to the US, applying discriminatory and unreasonable restrictions,” the document stated.

The new tariffs will take effect on August 19. The restrictions will cover a wide array of items ranging from daily consumer goods to industrial products, including wine, hockey sticks, and cement. However, energy resources, potash fertilizers, strategic minerals, and seafood products will be exempt from the new rates.
