Today is International Women’s Day 8 March

International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.

In 1910, the second International Conference of Working Women took place in Copenhagen. The leader of the women’s group of the Social Democratic Party of Germany Clara Zetkin put forward the idea of celebrating International Women’s Day. She suggested that Women’s Day should be celebrated annually in every country on the same day. The purpose of this holiday Zetkin called the struggle of women for their rights.

There is also another an opinion that the first ever “march of empty pots” of textile workers in New York, which took place on March 8, 1857, became the first of celebration of International Women’s Day.

In modern society, International Women’s Day is a holiday of spring and attention to a woman, when representatives of the strong half of humanity can once again please their loved ones and relatives with gifts and care.
