Earthquake death toll in Türkiye rises above 50,000

The death toll from the devastating February earthquakes in southern Türkiye has risen to 50,783. This was stated by Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu on Saturday, Turanews.kz reports citing CNN Türk.

Soylu noted that 7,302 migrants were among those killed in the earthquake.

According to the minister, work is underway to identify 985 bodies, among which there may be foreigners.

Rubble removal work in the region is currently being carried out under the supervision of AFAD and with the coordination of the governors, Soylu said.

On Monday, February 6, two earthquakes with a magnitude of more than seven points occurred in the southeast of Türkiye (at 04.17 local time – 7.7 points and at 13.24 – 7.6 points).
