Death toll from Türkiye earthquakes tops 38,000

The death toll from massive earthquakes that struck southeastern Türkiye last week has risen to 38,044 the country's disaster authority AFAD said Thursday evening.

According to statement made by AFAD, it was stated that 4,323 aftershocks occurred after the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes in the southern of Türkiye and severely hit neigboring Syria, on Feb. 6, razing thousands of buildings and inflicting severe damage on infrastructure.

In the statement, it was reported that 38 thousand 44 people lost their lives, 108 thousand 68 people were injured and 216 thousand 347 victims were evacuated from the region to all 11 provinces after the earthquake.
