British King Charles III diagnosed with cancer

King Charles III is being treated for cancer and will temporarily halt his public duties

Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that Britain’s reigning monarch, King Charles III, has been diagnosed with cancer and has commenced treatment.

The 75-year-old monarch, who has been on the throne for less than 18 months, will be scaling back his public appearances but intends to carry on with his official duties as head of state, refraining from relinquishing his constitutional roles.

Although the palace did not specify the type of cancer afflicting the king, it clarified that it is unrelated to his recent medical intervention for a benign prostate condition.

During his hospital stay last month for treatment of an enlarged prostate, a separate health issue of concern was identified, leading to further diagnostic tests that revealed the presence of cancer, as stated by the palace in a released statement.
