Azerbaijan and Iran Resume Cargo Transportation Across Border

Cargo transportation between Azerbaijan and Iran has resumed after a temporary suspension. According to official reports, freight traffic across the state border restarted on March 9 in both directions.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan announced that from 10:00 a.m. all types of cargo vehicles, including transit transport, are once again allowed to cross the border.

Earlier, on March 5, Baku temporarily halted cargo transportation following a drone incident in the Nakhchivan region, which reportedly may have originated from Iranian territory.

Tehran denied any involvement. During a phone call with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Iran had no role in the drone attack and stressed the importance of a thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also commented on the situation, condemning the drone attack.

President Ilham Aliyev later thanked the Kazakh leader for his support and for condemning the incident.
