Kazakhstan Extends Livestock Export Ban for Six Months

On July 26, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin chaired a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy and Participation in International Economic Organizations (IMC) in Kazakhstan.

During the meeting, the commission decided to extend the existing ban on exporting breeding cattle and small livestock from Kazakhstan for an additional six months. This ban was initially put in place on January 8 of this year to support the large-scale construction of dairy farms and the development of livestock farming using the Australian method. The extension aims to further enhance these efforts.

Additionally, the ban on wheat imports into Kazakhstan by all modes of transportation has been extended until the end of the year. Concerns about the illegal importation of wheat through “gray schemes” and its subsequent re-export from Russian border regions persist. The decision also considered forecasts indicating that Kazakhstan’s grain harvest is expected to surpass last year’s yield.

The commission also approved a reduction in customs duties on apricot, pear, and peach puree imports to support domestic juice and beverage producers.
