Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, painted a pessimistic picture of the world’s future, citing the conflict in Ukraine, global economic problems, and the rise of terrorism as major challenges, Turanews.kz reports.
“Coping with these ever-increasing challenges, coupled with global economic problems, is becoming more difficult every day,” Erdogan said.
He also called for speedy reforms to the UN, and in particular the UN Security Council, which he said has ceased to be a guarantor of world security and has become a battleground for the political strategies of five countries.
Erdogan also reiterated Türkiye’s support for Azerbaijan in the Karabakh conflict, saying that Karabakh is the territory of Azerbaijanany and any status in the region other than Azerbaijani sovereignty is unacceptable. He also called on Armenia to fulfill its promises, including the opening of the Zangezur Corridor.
Erdogan also expressed Türkiye’s expectation that the EU will fulfill its obligations to Türkiye, saying that it is necessary to develop relations between the two sides on a healthy basis.
