Türkiye earthquake: Death toll rises above 21,000

The Türkiye earthquake death toll has climbed beyond 21,000 on the 6th  day of rescue efforts, surpassing the more than 17,000 killed in 1999 when a similarly powerful quake hit north-western Türkiye.

The death toll in Türkiye has risen to 21,848 on Saturday afternoon (AEDT), the emergency management agency said. The number of people injured rose to 80,104.
