Under the proposed regulation, Uzbek citizens aged 18 to 60 who have been abroad for more than 90 days would be required to undergo medical screening upon return. The same rule would apply to foreign nationals and stateless individuals residing in Uzbekistan on a long-term or permanent basis.
Lawmakers behind the initiative argue that the move aims to ensure early detection of infectious diseases, particularly HIV. The proposal comes in response to increasing labor migration and the rising number of foreign residents entering the country.
If adopted, the law would align Uzbekistan with other countries implementing similar measures to curb the spread of HIV.
