According to the Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan, the country imported goods and services from 172 countries in January-September 2023, with the total value of imports amounting to $27,014.8 million. This represents an increase of 21.2% compared to the same period in 2022.
More than two-thirds of Uzbekistan’s imports came from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, Türkiye, Germany, and Turkmenistan. Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, accounted for 50.1% of the country’s imports, while Surkhandarya, the smallest province, accounted for 0.3%.
The main categories of imports were machinery and equipment (33.3%), chemicals (16.6%), and food products (13.8%).
The increase in imports is attributed to the country’s growing economy and rising demand for foreign goods and services. Uzbekistan’s government has been implementing a number of measures to promote trade and investment, including reducing tariffs and streamlining customs procedures.
