Uzbekistan Aims for $3.5 Billion Agricultural Export Surge, Targets Global Markets

Uzbekistan is set to boost its exports of agricultural products to $3.5 billion, targeting pricier global markets by the year 2024.

The announcement came during a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, focusing on the growth of agriculture and food industries in the country.

The agriculture sector witnessed a 4.1% increase in 2023, achieving exports of nearly $2 billion. Despite this growth, the full export potential has yet to be realized, prompting the President to emphasize tasks in the fruit and vegetable industry.

These tasks involve identifying new potential markets and organizing the procurement of products for export. Measures have been implemented for plant protection, soil analysis, and the digitalization of processes in this domain. Over the past years, the country obtained 620 phytosanitary permits for exporting products to 80 countries.

Plans for the current year were deliberated, focusing on elevating agricultural exports to $3.5 billion and expanding the production of fruits, grapes, and legumes. Additionally, initiatives include establishing 20 mobile laboratories in various regions, digitalizing pesticide circulation processes, and implementing innovative methods for biological control of insect pests.
