Turkmenistan Invites SCO States to Join TAPI and TAP Projects
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the leader of Turkmenistan, attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Astana, Kazakhstan. The summit included meetings of the heads of SCO member states and a broader "SCO+" session.
At the summit, Berdimuhamedov invited SCO states to consider participating in energy and communication projects in Afghanistan. He specifically mentioned the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, as well as power transmission lines and fiber-optic communications along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route.
Berdimuhamedov emphasized that these projects would aid Afghanistan’s economic and social recovery, helping the country integrate more effectively into regional and continental processes. He believes this will also contribute to the stabilization of Afghanistan’s political situation.
