Türkiye earthquake: death toll rises to 48,000

The death toll from the earthquakes that struck southern parts of Türkiye last month has risen to 47,975 the number of injured has exceeded 115 thousand. This was announced by the President of Türkiye Tayyip Erdogan, Turanews.kz reports.

“The death toll has reached 47,975 and the number of injured has exceeded 115,000 and around 50,000 buildings were collapsed due to devastating earthquakes.” said Erdogan in a televison broadcast in the disaster area.

The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 quakes struck on Feb. 6 in southeastern Türkiye, also severely hitting neighboring Syria, and destroying around 164,000 buildings, containing some 520,000 apartments, in what is described as the worst disaster in Türkiye’s modern history.
