The Turkish Consulate General in Almaty has awarded Turkish citizen Sukur Gunay for his heroic actions in saving three children and a mother from a fire in a 16-storey residential complex in the city on August 1, Turanews.kz reports.
The fire broke out in the early hours of the morning and quickly spread to several apartments. Gunay, who was staying in the building at the time, heard the cries of children and rushed to help. He was able to break down the door of an apartment where three children and their mother were trapped and bring them to safety.
Gunay’s actions were praised by the Turkish Consulate General, who said that he had “demonstrated courage and selflessness in the face of danger.” The Consulate General also expressed its gratitude to all citizens who assisted in rescuing residents during the fire.
The fire in the residential complex injured 49 people and killed one woman. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
