Tornado in China Kills 5, Injures 4

A tornado struck a township in eastern China’s Jiangsu province on Tuesday, killing five people and injuring 4 people, local authorities said on Wednesday.

The tornado hit Daxing Township and Nancai Township of Suqian City at around 5:00 p.m. Initial investigations show that 5,512 people were affected, 1,646 households were damaged, and 137 homes collapsed. 41.8 hectares of crops were also damaged, and 405 people were temporarily evacuated to safe places.

Representatives of relevant local departments have been dispatched to the scene to help with the aftermath of the disaster. Injured residents have been taken to hospitals for treatment.
