On May 28, Türkiye will vote for the second round of presidential elections, which will determine who will become the 13th president of the country, Turanews.kz reports.
On May 14, there were four candidates in total in the Turkish general election. These are the current president of the country, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, oppositionists Kemal Kilicdaroglu, Muharrem Ince, and Sinan Ogan. The main rivals in the presidential elections are the leader of the ruling party, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the representative of Türkiye’s main opposition force, the chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
The pro-government People’s Coalition includes the Justice and Development Party, the Nationalist Movement Party, and the Great Unity Party, from which R. Erdogan is nominated as a presidential candidate. The opposition National Alliance consists of the CHP, the Good Party, the Happiness Party, and the Democratic Party. The opposition forces of the country are also supported by the “Party of the Future” and the “Party of Democracy and Progress”. Presidential candidate K. Kilicdaroglu was nominated by a six-party opposition association.
According to the results of the first round of elections, the country’s president was not determined since the leading candidates did not score the threshold of 50 + 1 votes. At the same time, presidential candidates S. Ogan and M. Ince left the electoral race without much support from the population. Moreover, before the start of the election for the presidency, an incident occurred that was unexpected for all participants in the electoral struggle. On May 11, M. Ince, speaking to his party members, announced that he was withdrawing his candidacy from the elections for the sake of peace and well-being of the country’s population. And presidential candidate S. Ogan, who won over 5% of the vote in the second round of voting, decided to support the incumbent head of state.
In general, the studies of most Turkish rating companies testified to the possible victory in the presidential elections of the candidate from the opposition National Coalition, Kemal Kilicdaroglu. According to them, it was predicted that about 53% of the electorate preferred the Kemalist, and up to 50% of the population supported R. Erdogan.
Meanwhile, the results of the May 14 elections showed that the population of the country still has confidence in the current head of state. According to the results, after processing all the ballots in the first round, Erdogan won 49.34% of the votes, and Kilicdaroglu – 45%.
After May 14, electoral campaigning in the country practically did not stop. Calls to vote for this or that candidate can be heard on the streets of cities to this day. People are handing out leaflets, and buses with loudspeakers run along the avenues.
Tomorrow, May 28, it will become known who will be the 13th President of Türkiye and under whose leadership the Turkish people will enter the second century of the Republic.
