Roblox Introduces New Age Verification Rules for Chat Features

Roblox has announced a major update to its safety system: users will soon need to pass facial age verification to access chat features on the platform.
Under the new policy, users will be categorized by age, and communication will be allowed only with peers—unless the person is listed as a “Trusted Contact.” The company says the measure aims to limit unwanted interactions between minors and adults.
Age verification is currently optional, but starting early December it will become mandatory in selected countries, including Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands. A global rollout is planned by January 2026.
Roblox emphasizes that all photos and videos submitted for verification are processed by an external partner and immediately deleted. The process takes place through the user’s device camera within the app.
According to the company, these changes will create a safer and more age-appropriate communication environment for all Roblox users.
