Putin Orders Consideration of Export Ban on Uranium, Titanium, and Nickel

Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the government to explore potential restrictions on the export of key strategic materials, including uranium, titanium, and nickel. He emphasized that any measures should avoid negatively impacting the Russian economy.

During a meeting with government officials, Putin raised the idea in response to foreign restrictions imposed on Russian goods. He suggested that Russia might consider similar limitations on its own exports of essential resources, addressing Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin directly.

“They are limiting supplies of certain goods to us, so maybe we should think about restrictions on uranium, titanium, and nickel,” Putin said, while stressing the need for careful planning to prevent harm to the domestic economy.

Putin noted that Russia holds significant global reserves of strategic raw materials, including almost 22% of the world’s natural gas, 23% of gold, and 55% of diamonds. The president hinted that other critical resources could also be subject to future export restrictions if necessary.
