Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced the phone call between the two heads of state at a briefing, saying it was the first such conversation in the past three years.
“President Putin and US President Donald Trump recently had a telephone conversation. The conversation between the heads of state was lengthy – 1.5 hours,” Peskov said.
Trump has repeatedly stated his intention to speak with the Russian president in recent weeks.
The US leader has focused on the conflict in Ukraine and expressed his willingness to help end it.
