President Tokayev Holds Meeting with SCO Member States’ Security Council Secretaries

According to a statement from the Akorda press service, the President convened a meeting with the secretaries of the Security Councils of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states.

During the meeting, the President emphasized the ongoing preparations for the upcoming summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana, underscoring its significance for Kazakhstan. He highlighted the relevance of meetings among the security council secretaries of SCO member countries, given the growing importance of collective security within the SCO region.

President Tokaev noted a concerning global trend, citing a surge in regional and local conflicts worldwide, with a 30 percent increase observed last year—the highest in three decades. He emphasized the escalating threat posed by international terrorism.

Addressing a recent tragedy in the Moscow region, where numerous civilians lost their lives to terrorism, the President reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s condemnation of the heinous act and expressed solidarity with Russia. He highlighted the ongoing cooperation between Kazakhstani and Russian security services in counter-terrorism efforts.

The President stressed the global condemnation of the Moscow region terrorist attack and emphasized the need for international collaboration to combat terrorism. He urged concrete actions to ensure citizens’ safety and effectively address terrorist threats.
