President Tokayev Convened a Meeting with the Speakers of the Chambers of Parliaments of the CSTO Countries.

In a gathering that included participants of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), President Tokayev extended a warm welcome to the legislative dignitaries. He voiced his support for the Russian proposal to grant permanent status to the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and urged other member countries to back this initiative.

During his address, President Tokayev underscored the significance of inter-parliamentary dialogue in bolstering interstate relations, especially amidst the prevailing global tensions. He highlighted concerns over the escalating threats to regional security, particularly in light of the dire humanitarian situation in the Middle East, notably the Gaza Strip.

Reiterating Kazakhstan’s steadfast stance, President Tokayev advocated for the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, emphasizing the importance of the recent UN General Assembly resolution recognizing the rights of Palestinians to membership in the organization.

The President also addressed the situation in Afghanistan, stressing the need for active engagement with the country in regional affairs. He emphasized Kazakhstan’s decision to delist the Taliban regime as a terrorist organization, citing the imperative of fostering economic cooperation with a modern Afghanistan.

Furthermore, President Tokayev proposed initiatives aimed at enhancing CSTO cooperation, including the establishment of a UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty. He emphasized the importance of strengthening response systems to contemporary challenges, particularly in combatting terrorism and ensuring collective security.

President Tokayev expressed gratitude for the support extended by CSTO countries during Kazakhstan’s recent floods, highlighting the need for enhanced cooperation in addressing emergency situations.

Additionally, he emphasized Kazakhstan’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with international organizations involved in security matters, such as the UN, CIS, and SCO.

President Tokayev also provided an overview of ongoing reforms in Kazakhstan, particularly in modernizing various sectors and liberalizing the economy to attract foreign investment and promote entrepreneurship.

In concluding remarks, President Tokayev expressed confidence that the meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly would contribute to harmonizing national legislations and further strengthening the organization. The event also featured speeches from the Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and the parliamentary leaders of Russia, Belarus, and Tajikistan.
