President of Türkiye to Attend SCO Summit

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit will include leaders from observer countries and dialogue partner states, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan among them.

President Erdoğan has flown to Kazakhstan to participate in the 24th SCO summit.

President Erdoğan is accompanied by his wife Emine Erdogan, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, Chief Advisor for Foreign Policy and Security Ambassador Akif Çağatay Kılıç, and Deputy Presidential Communications Director Çağatay Özdemir. All of these officials will also be present in Astana.

During the summit, Erdogan is expected to meet with other heads of state to discuss political, trade, and economic cooperation. Turkish analysts believe that the future international integration of Turkic peoples could significantly impact the global geopolitical balance.

In 2022, at the SCO summit in Samarkand, President Erdoğan expressed Türkiye’s interest in becoming a member of the organization. Analysts anticipate that this topic may be discussed during his visit to Astana.
