Paris Olympics: Equal Representation of Men and Women for the First Time

For the first time in Olympic history, the representation of men and women will be equal at the Summer Olympics in Paris.

The Paris Olympics will feature a 50/50 split between male and female athletes. Out of the 80 athletes representing Kazakhstan, 54 are men and 26 are women.

According to the Ministry of Sports and Tourism, Kazakhstan has won a total of 71 medals at the Summer Olympics, with 18 of those earned by women. The first medal for women came from Olga Shishigina, who won gold in the 110-meter hurdles at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Olga Rypakova holds the record for the most medals in the triple jump, with three.

Kazakhstan’s most successful sports include weightlifting and wrestling, with each sport contributing five medals.

Here is a summary of Kazakhstan’s performance at previous Olympic Games:

  • 1996 Atlanta Olympics: 96 participants (72 men, 24 women) – All 11 medals won by men.
  • 2000 Sydney Olympics: 130 participants (86 men, 44 women) – 6 medals; first medal won by Olga Shishigina.
