Ministry of Emergency Situations Updates on Flood Situation in Kazakhstan

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan provided an update on flood control efforts in several regions affected by recent floods, including Aktobe, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, and North Kazakhstan.

In Petropavlovsk, North Kazakhstan region, efforts continue to pump out meltwater from flooded areas, with a total of 128,170 cubic meters already extracted. Meanwhile, in Kulsary, Zhylyoi district, as well as in Inderbor and Zhalgansay villages in Atyrau region, 173,179 cubic meters of water have been pumped out. Additionally, monitoring of the water level in the Zhaiyk River is ongoing, with reinforcement and construction of protective dams in progress in Zhalgansai village. All evacuated residents of Zhalgansai village have returned home.

In Aktobe region, specifically in Kuylys and Zhaysanbay villages of Irgiz district, flood control efforts continue with the laying of 5,150 bags and 164 tons of inert materials for bank protection.

In Uralsk, West Kazakhstan region, the pumping of meltwater from residential areas is ongoing around the clock, resulting in 266,693 cubic meters of water being pumped out during the day and night.

Across the republic, 61,860 evacuees have returned home, while 5,341 individuals remain in temporary accommodation centers. Over 24.9 million cubic meters of meltwater have been diverted and pumped out, with 8 million bags and 1.5 million tons of inert materials laid down.

A significant workforce and equipment are involved in flood control operations, including 4,276 personnel, 651 pieces of equipment, 248 water pumping units, 56 watercraft, and 4 aircraft.
