Migrants from Iraq Burn Koran Near Swedish Parliament Building

Two migrants from Iraq burned a copy of the Koran near the Swedish Parliament building in Stockholm on Monday, Turanews.kz reports.

According to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, the organizers of the action, Salvan Momika and Salvan Najem, finished the holy book with each other, and then set the book on fire. The police had issued a permit for the demonstration.

The burning of the Koran sparked protests in Baghdad, where hundreds of demonstrators stormed the Swedish embassy and set it on fire. The demonstration was organized on the eve of the expected action in Sweden.

The UN also condemned the burning of the Koran, issuing a resolution on July 11 that called on all countries to respect religious freedom.

The protests in Baghdad continued on July 20, with thousands of people gathering near the Swedish embassy. The protests were sparked by another permission from the Swedish police to hold an action with the burning of the Koran, which was issued on July 19.
