Mass shawarma poisoning in Bishkek

21 people were poisoned by shawarma at two fast food outlets in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The outlets, “Besh Lavash” and “Midos”, are located at the intersection of Chui Avenue and Suyunbaeva Street, TuraNews.kz reports citing Kabar Agency.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, 15 people, including two children, were hospitalized at the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital. The remaining six people are undergoing outpatient treatment.

Sanitary and microbiological studies are being conducted to determine the exact cause of the poisoning. Fast food outlets were fined 72 thousand soms for detected violations and were closed until the violations were eliminated.

Health Minister Alymkadyr Beishenaliev held an emergency meeting at the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Inspection Center in Bishkek regarding the mass poisoning in the capital.

This mass poisoning incident is a reminder of the importance of food safety. It is important to eat only at reputable food establishments and to avoid eating food that is not properly cooked or stored.
