Magnitude 5.9 earthquake rattles in Türkiye
The earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9, the epicenter of which was in the Golyaka district of Düzce, occurred at a depth of 6.81 kilometers, Anadolu agency reports.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) reported that 96 aftershocks, the largest of which was 4.3, occurred after the earthquake that occurred at 04.08.
Interior Minister ıf Republic of Türkiye Suleyman Soylu, who arrived in Duzce immediately after the quake, said there are no fatalities.
The earthquake were also felt in Istanbul and other big cities such as Izmir and as well as as the capital Ankara.
Following the quake, a total of 74 aftershocks were recorded. Power cuts are being imposed in the region as a precautionary measure, announced AFAD.
In 1999, Duzce province was hit by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake which lasted 30 seconds, killing 710 people and injuring 2,679.
