Kyrgyzstan Sets Ambitious Goal to Clear $5 Billion External Debt by 2035

In a recent interview with the Kabar agency, President Sadyr Japarov announced Kyrgyzstan's ambitious plan to fully repay its external debt, amounting to $5 billion, within the next 11 years.

President Japarov emphasized the nation’s improved economic conditions, expressing confidence in the country’s ability to meet this financial commitment by 2035. He underscored that as long as peace and stability prevail, Kyrgyzstan anticipates no obstacles in fulfilling its debt obligations.

However, despite the debt repayment strategy, Kyrgyzstan remains open to securing new external credit loans for promising ventures. President Japarov cited the construction of the Kambar-Ata 1 hydroelectric power station, estimated at $5-6 billion, as an example of a project that could benefit from external financing.

Assuring fiscal responsibility, President Japarov pledged that all future borrowing would be meticulously managed to ensure self-sustainability for each project. He reiterated the government’s commitment to prevent any undue burden on the national budget or the populace, promising that every project would be structured to generate its own revenue streams.
