Kazakhstan to Upgrade Road Linking Zhanaozen to Turkmenistan Border
The government of Kazakhstan is set to overhaul the road connecting the city of Zhanaozen to the Turkmenistan border. The 229-kilometer highway is currently in poor condition, with significant deterioration along its length.
The decision to repair the road comes as part of efforts to boost tourism in the Mangistau region, particularly the resort village of Kenderli. The project was announced by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport, Marat Karabaev, during a recent visit to the region.
The planned upgrades will include strengthening the road’s foundation and resurfacing the entire stretch. Once completed, the improved road is expected to facilitate travel and economic activity between the two countries.
