Kazakhstan Proposes Ban on Bookmaker Advertisements in Media and on Buildings
The initiative comes as part of a bill introduced by members of the Mazhilis, Kazakhstan's lower house of Parliament, aimed at amending existing legislation related to gambling, lotteries, and lottery activities.
During a plenary meeting of the Mazhilis, Deputy Askhat Aimagambetov explained, “This entails a ban on the placement and distribution of bookmaker and betting shop advertisements on buildings, billboards, media outlets, and vehicles. Additionally, advertising in other locations may be restricted.”
The proposed bill also includes provisions such as:
Prohibiting citizens listed in the unified register of debtors from participating in gambling.
Blocking access to internet resources of unlicensed foreign bookmakers and sweepstakes.
Introducing administrative and criminal penalties for organizers of gambling activities who violate the law.
“The aim of these bills is to discourage citizens from participating in gambling and betting activities,” added the deputy. “The Committee for Social and Cultural Development is prepared to review and provide recommendations on these bills.”
