Kazakh Archer Wins World Championship at Türkiye Tournament

Aykorkem Batihan, a member of the Kazakhstan national team in traditional archery and a resident of Astana, has become the world champion at the “Fetih Kupası” (“Victory Cup”) tournament in Istanbul, Türkiye, according to the official website of the Astana akimat.

Batihan achieved this historic victory in the 50cm Puta target race over a distance of 50 meters. The 12th international “Fetih Kupası” tournament saw participation from around 300 athletes representing 20 countries.

“The ‘Fetih Kupası’ international tournament is one of the largest competitions in traditional archery. Achieving success and victory in this competition is one of the coveted trophies for all Kazakh archers. The tournament has been held in Türkiye for 12 years, with Kazakhstani athletes participating since 2017. This year, our athletes reached the finals: 4 women and 4 men,” said Dias Akhmetov, head coach of the Kazakhstan national traditional archery team.

In the final match, Aykorkem Batihan faced the strongest archer in Türkiye and triumphed with a score of 5:4. Akhmetov praised this victory as a significant achievement for the entire team.

Nineteen-year-old Aykorkem Batihan, from the capital city Astana, has been practicing traditional archery for only 1.5 years.
