Earthquake Strikes Near the Caspian Sea

During the night hours, an earthquake shook near the Caspian Sea.

The seismic network center operated by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan detected the earthquake at 00:09 local time on April 23.

The epicenter of the earthquake was pinpointed 1913 kilometers west of Almaty, Kazakhstan.

With an energy class of 9.6 and a magnitude MPV of 4.4, the earthquake’s coordinates were recorded at 46.02° N and 53.29° E, with a depth of 15 kilometers.

Despite its strength, the earthquake did not register perceptibility on the territory of Kazakhstan, according to the MSK-64 scale.
