Conference in Baku Focuses on Turkic Cultural Heritage, Hosted by Turkic Academy and UNESCO Partners

Baku, March 14th: A significant conference titled “Study and Preservation of the Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Turkic World from the Perspective of UNESCO” commenced in Baku.

The two-day event, initiated by the Turkic Academy in collaboration with the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO, and the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, along with support from the Secretariat of the Organization of Turkic States, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), and the Institute for Development and Diplomacy of the ADA University.

Throughout the conference, various topics concerning the study and preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the Turkic world will be discussed to deepen understanding of its impact on contemporary Turkic societies.

Dignitaries including Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Adil Karimli, President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, and others delivered speeches during the opening ceremony.

President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev emphasized the significance of protecting, rehabilitating, promoting, and effectively utilizing historical and cultural monuments and sites of heritage, following UNESCO’s principles and standards.

Thematic sessions were held where leaders of international organizations, representatives from the National Commission for UNESCO, scientists, and academic figures underscored the importance of preserving and promoting the historical and cultural heritage of the Turkic world for future generations.

Participants unanimously stressed the importance of inventorying Turkic historical and cultural heritage and supporting the creation of necessary mechanisms to facilitate systematic cooperation in this area.

The conference also included a cultural program featuring a visiting exhibition titled “Heritage in Textiles: Turkic Clothing, Carpets and Ornaments” at Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum and a visit to the World Heritage Site “Icheri sheher”.
