California Declares State of Emergency Due to Wildfire

A state of emergency has been declared in California, USA, due to a rapidly spreading wildfire.

U.S. President Joe Biden canceled his trip to Italy in response to the wildfire, which has claimed at least five lives. He also declared California a disaster zone, according to a statement released by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, as reported by TASS.

“President Biden met with police, firefighters, and emergency responders battling the historic wildfire in the region. Following the declaration of a state of emergency, he decided to return to Los Angeles this evening and cancel his upcoming trip to Italy,” the statement read.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, many homes have been damaged, and more than 10,000 residential buildings are under threat. The fire covered an area of 5.1 square kilometers throughout the day.
