Bear Shot Near School in Uzbekistan for Public Safety

On May 15, 2024, a bear was shot near a school in the Zhannatmakon mahalla of Uzbekistan after posing a threat to residents. The incident, which caused significant alarm, prompted action due to the danger to human lives.

The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan reported that the bear had wandered into a residential area, endangering local inhabitants. Despite efforts to neutralize the bear, it attacked and injured a police officer. The situation escalated when the bear entered the premises of school No. 74, where students were present.

Given the imminent risk to public safety, authorities made the difficult decision to shoot the bear. The Ministry’s press service confirmed the measures were necessary to protect the lives of the community members.
