A group of about 50 Armenian demonstrators attacked the Azerbaijani embassy in Beirut on Thursday. The demonstrators threw bottles of explosives and paint at the building, and also damaged the fence around the embassy, Turanews.kz reports.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said that none of the embassy employees were injured in the attack. The ministry also said that it has sent a note to the Lebanese Foreign Ministry demanding to identify and detain the criminals involved in the attack.
The Lebanese security forces have launched an investigation into the incident.
The attack comes amid tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. The two countries fought a war over the region in 2020, and the conflict remains unresolved.
The attack on the Azerbaijani embassy is a serious escalation of tensions between the two countries. It is also a violation of international law, which protects diplomatic missions from attack.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has called on the Lebanese authorities to take all necessary measures to protect the embassy and its staff. The ministry has also urged the Lebanese authorities to bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.
