Amazon to Cut Workforce as AI Integration Advances

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has announced that the company will reduce its global workforce in the coming years due to the growing adoption of generative artificial intelligence.

In an internal memo to staff, Jassy explained that AI is reshaping how work is done:

“As we roll out generative AI technologies, they change the way we operate. For some tasks, fewer people will be needed, though in other areas, we may require more. While it’s hard to say exactly where this will happen, overall, we expect a net reduction in headcount over the next few years,” he wrote.

Amazon has reportedly invested around $105 billion in AI development. The company currently employs approximately 1.6 million people worldwide.
