A Third Official Currency Form Appears in Kazakhstan

The regulatory and legal framework for a third form of the national currency has been approved in Kazakhstan, and a plan for its further implementation has been prepared, announced Vice Minister of Finance Aset Turyssov.

Aset Turyssov recalled that in 2025, in cooperation with the National Bank, around 20 pilot projects were launched across various sectors, including public procurement, infrastructure projects, subsidies, and tax administration.

— These pilot projects have demonstrated positive results. In this regard, the National Bank and the Government have approved a plan for the mass issuance of the digital tenge. The regulatory and legal aspects have also been finalized. This is officially the third form of currency in Kazakhstan, — the Vice Minister stated.

According to him, the currency will be introduced in stages, primarily to monitor the expenditure of budgetary funds.

— This is the third form of the national currency, circulating alongside cash and non-cash money. Today, the status of the digital tenge platform and its operating procedures are legally established. Approximately 339 billion digital tenge have been put into circulation, and more than 20 pilot projects have been implemented. The use of the digital tenge will increase the transparency and oversight of budgetary funds, ensuring they are spent strictly for their intended purposes, — the Vice Minister added.
