89 People Rescued After Going Missing in Snowstorm in Mongolia
89 individuals who went missing during a severe snowstorm in the Zavkhan aimag of Mongolia have been located and saved, TuraNews.kz reports citing Xinhua Agency.
The General Directorate of Emergency Situations in Mongolia’s Operational Headquarters received 29 distress calls due to the impact of the powerful snowstorm on the aimag. These calls were related to the disappearance of 89 people, including Mongolian nomadic herders who were grazing livestock, as well as drivers stranded on rural roads due to snow drifts and zero visibility, according to an official statement.
The statement further detailed the challenges faced by the individuals caught in the snowstorm, emphasizing the swift response by emergency services to locate and rescue those in distress.
The Institute of Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring of Mongolia has issued forecasts indicating that the cold front from Siberia, which has enveloped much of Mongolia, is expected to persist for the coming days. Consequently, temperatures are anticipated to plummet to as low as minus 50 degrees in certain areas, posing additional challenges for residents and travelers in the affected regions.
