Armenia Plans to Open Two Border Crossings with Türkiye
The draft program of the Armenian Government for 2026–2031 outlines measures aimed at normalizing relations with Türkiye, including opening the Armenia–Türkiye border and commissioning at least two modern border crossings.
According to Kazinform, the relevant document was added to the Armenian Government meeting agenda on August 20. The draft program, its justification, and annexes were published on the official e-government portal.
The roadmap includes:
-
Establishing diplomatic relations between Armenia and Türkiye.
-
Opening the border and operating at least two modern border checkpoints.
-
Relaunching transport, energy, and digital infrastructure while expanding bilateral trade.
The document does not specify which border checkpoints will be opened or the exact timelines for launch. Currently, the land border remains closed to third-country citizens and freight without special agreements. Both nations have been conducting normalization talks since 2022 to restore transport links and open borders.
