Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Strengthen Cooperation in Combating Locust Pests

Under a Joint Action Plan signed between the Committee for State Inspection in the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan and the Department of Plant Protection and Quarantine of the Kyrgyz Republic, the two nations are conducting joint phytosanitary activities in border areas. According to BasAgro.kz, these measures aim to prevent the spread of locust pests and ensure regional phytosanitary safety.

The bilateral cooperation focuses on stopping the cross-border migration of highly dangerous pests and protecting agricultural lands in neighboring regions. As part of this initiative, a Kazakhstani delegation visited the Kyrgyz Republic to conduct joint monitoring of border territories and survey lands for locust hotspots. The visit also facilitated a rapid exchange of information between the respective specialized services.

Particular attention was paid to coordinating chemical treatments, synchronizing preventive measures, and developing joint strategies to curb pest movement between the two states. This collaboration is vital for protecting crops, maintaining phytosanitary stability, and strengthening food security. Currently, monitoring efforts have been intensified, with specialized machinery, technical equipment, and necessary pesticides ready for immediate protective actions. Both sides confirmed their commitment to ongoing cooperation in phytosanitary safety and the continued implementation of joint locust control measures.
