Kazakhstan Sends First Shipment of Food-Grade Wheat to Armenia

Kazakhstan has shipped its first batch of food-grade wheat to the Republic of Armenia, marking the first such delivery in 30 years. The shipment became possible after agreements reached between the presidents of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, which enabled the restoration of transit through Azerbaijani territory, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan reported.

The announcement on lifting all restrictions on cargo transit toward Yerevan was made on October 21, 2025, during the meeting between Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ilham Aliyev in Astana. As a gesture supporting the peace agreements between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Kazakhstan dispatched a pilot shipment of wheat via a newly opened railway corridor.

Today, a train consisting of 15 wagons crossed the Azerbaijani border and is expected to arrive at the Dalarik station in Armenia within the next few days.

During a working visit to Baku, the leadership of the National Grain Operator met with representatives of the Kazakh Embassy in Azerbaijan. Both sides are jointly overseeing the transit process and delivery to Armenian partners.

According to Asylkhan Zhuvashev, Chairman of the Board of “Prodcorporation,” the opening of this new transit route is significant not only for expanding Kazakhstan’s grain export geography but also for strengthening logistics connectivity in the South Caucasus and enhancing trade and economic cooperation in the region.
