Tajikistan’s parliament is considering a proposal to restrict minors’ access to social media. MP Dilnoza Ahmadzoda has suggested introducing an age limit,TuraNews.kz reports citing ASIA-Plus.
According to the proposal, children under 14 would be completely banned from using social networks, while teenagers aged 14 to 17 would only be allowed access with written parental consent.
Ahmadzoda argued that excessive use of the internet and social platforms may harm children’s mental and spiritual development. She noted that earlier this year, the government amended the Law on Child Protection to address false and harmful information. However, she stressed the need for further measures to regulate minors’ use of social media.
Experts remain skeptical about a full ban, warning it would not solve the issue. They emphasize the importance of teaching digital literacy, promoting critical thinking, and strengthening educational outreach for the younger generation.
