According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada, Armenia’s reluctance to amend its constitution and abandon territorial claims casts serious doubt on its commitment to peace. He stressed that such a position undermines trust in the negotiation process.
Baku reiterated its stance that the OSCE Minsk Group is an outdated mechanism and should be dissolved. Azerbaijani authorities assert that the conflict with Armenia ended with the liberation of its territories from long-term occupation. Armenia’s references to “Western Azerbaijan” were described by Baku as historical distortion and a call to safeguard the rights of ethnic Azerbaijanis who once lived in the region.
“Azerbaijan reaffirms its support for unimpeded transit as part of efforts to promote regional cooperation and economic integration,” the statement read.
The Azerbaijani side has called on Armenia to amend its constitution, renounce territorial claims, and formally disband the Minsk Group without preconditions.
Previously, in April, Prime Minister Pashinyan had proposed signing a joint peace declaration with Azerbaijan, including an agreement to dissolve the Minsk Group. In March, both countries reported finalizing the text of a prospective peace agreement. Earlier this month, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry announced it had intercepted reconnaissance flights by the Armenian Armed Forces.
