Kyrgyzstan Imposes Temporary Ban on Egg Imports to Stabilize Market

Starting May 1, Kyrgyzstan will introduce a six-month ban on the import of chicken eggs in an effort to stabilize food prices.

according to a statement by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Melioration, еhe restriction will not apply to eggs transiting through Kyrgyzstan or transported between EAEU member states via Kyrgyz territory.

No egg imports from neighboring countries have been recorded since February 10. On the contrary, Kyrgyzstan exported 8.8 million eggs to Kazakhstan in the first quarter of 2025.

Authorities attribute the shift to increased domestic production and growing competition among local poultry farms. The ministry also recommends that farmers focus on chicken meat production, as the country imports over 91,000 tons of poultry annually—a sector seen as more profitable than egg production.
